Caring for Children with Special Needs

Children with special needs and their families need quality care environments just as much as children without special needs. Many providers are unsure that they have the knowledge or an appropriate environment to ensure that children with special needs receive quality care. For a comprehensive definition of inclusion please visit our All Children Together page.

4Cs wants to support providers in this area to ensure that children with special needs have the same opportunities as all children in accessing and receiving quality care. 4Cs offers many training opportunities in a wide variety of topics on special needs.

Please visit our training and events calendar for upcoming professional development opportunities and check back often as the calendar is updated frequently.

In addition to trainings, 4Cs offers direct support to providers. Our Inclusion staff will come to your program and offer suggestions for simple accommodations. We will also provide one-on-one support and resources when you are caring for a child with special needs.

The American with Disabilities Act (ADA) prohibits discrimination against children with disabilities by any child care center or family child care home. Under this law, a licensed child care provider must evaluate the needs of each child seeking to enroll or already enrolled and must make and document every reasonable accommodation to include and serve that child.

Contact our Inclusion Specialist at (650)517-1444 to receive more information about how you can create a more inclusive program that complies with ADA.
